New Delhi. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said in an official statement on Thursday that despite the current global tensions, domestic LPG supply remains completely normal. As against online booking, supply has reached 98 percent and there is no report of cylinder dry-out at any gas agency. The ministry further said in the statement that the government has ensured 100 percent supply of domestic LPG, Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and CNG for vehicles. Delivery on the basis of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) received on the registered mobile number of consumers has increased to about 92 percent, thereby preventing black marketing and misuse of gas. According to the government, around 4.58 lakh new PNG connections have been activated so far, while 5.1 lakh new consumers have registered for connections since March. Till April 15, around 35,000 consumers have switched over to PNG through the MyPNGD.in website.
Hospitals and educational institutions are being given priority in the supply of commercial LPG. Apart from this, priority has also been given to pharma, steel, automobile, seeds and agriculture sectors. The supply of small 5 kg gas cylinders for migrant laborers has also been doubled.
The government has also appealed to the people not to make panic purchases of petrol, diesel and LPG. Trust only official sources for correct information and use digital platforms for gas booking so that there is no need to visit the agency.
The ministry further said that since March 23, about 15.5 lakh small (5 kg) LPG cylinders have been sold. At the same time, 7,930 metric tons of commercial LPG (about 4.17 lakh 19 kg cylinders) was sold on Wednesday. Auto LPG sales of public sector companies averaged 286 metric tons per day in April, which is much higher than 177 metric tons in February.
Meanwhile, strict action is being taken across the country to stop hoarding and black marketing of LPG. More than 2,500 raids were conducted on Wednesday. So far, fine has been imposed on 238 gas agencies and licenses of 63 agencies have been suspended.
The government has appealed to people to adopt alternative fuels like PNG, electric or induction stoves and save energy. Apart from this, the availability of kerosene and coal has also been increased so that the pressure on LPG can be reduced.
The government has taken several steps like increasing refinery production, increasing the LPG booking interval from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas. The Coal Ministry has also directed Coal India and Singareni Collieries to supply additional coal, so that small and medium consumers can get relief.
