Kolkata, October 22 (). All six accused in the Durgapur gang rape case of West Bengal will be presented in the court on Wednesday. Police may demand extension of his remand for further investigation in the case.
According to the police, the victim’s arrested male friend Wasif Ali will be produced in the court along with other accused in the case.
There are abnormalities in the statements of all the accused, including the male friend of the victim, due to which the investigators are facing difficulty in investigation. Due to this, there is a need to increase the remand period of the accused to remove the shortcomings in the investigation process.
On Tuesday, the statements of two of the six accused in the rape case of a second-year medical student were recorded before a judicial magistrate in a court.
Sources in Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate said that the statements of both the accused were recorded under Section 183 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023.
After the statement was recorded before the Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday, both the accused were sent back to custody. Now, after the statement of two of the six accused has been recorded before the Judicial Magistrate, there is a possibility that both of them may turn approver in the case.
During six days of interrogation, police have found abnormalities in the statements of the Durgapur gang rape victim’s male friend and five arrested youths from the local village.
Officials said that the police is trying to find some more links in this gang rape case.
On October 10, a second-year medical student from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped by five men in an area outside a private medical college and hospital in Durgapur in West Burdwan district.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the police had already arrested all the five accused in the case. Police said only one person was involved in the physical sexual assault of the medical student. Later, the police arrested the victim’s male friend. The male friend was arrested after abnormalities were found in his responses during interrogation. He is also currently in police custody.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the incident to punish the culprits as soon as possible.
