New Delhi, 21 September (). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation on Sunday, greeted the countrymen on Navratri. He said that Navratri, the festival of worship of Shakti, is starting from Sunday. Best wishes to all of you. Since the first day of Navratri, the country is taking another important and big step for the self -sufficient Bharat Abhiyan. On the first day of Navratri, on September 22, the Next Generation GST reform will be implemented along with sunrise.
PM Modi said that these reforms will intensify India’s development journey, will increase the ease of doing business, attract more investment and ensure that every state becomes equal partner in the development of the country. He said that when India moved towards the GST reform in the year 2017, an old history started to change and create new history. The public and traders were entangled in different tax nets for decades. At that time there were dozens of different taxes in our country.
He said that at that time, how many check posts had to be crossed to send goods from one city to another, how many forms had to be filled and how many interruptions were there. There were different rules of tax everywhere. I remember that when the country entrusted the responsibility of Prime Minister in 2014, an interesting example was published in a foreign newspaper in the same period, it was mentioned by the difficulties of a company. The company had said that it had to face difficulties to send its belongings to Hyderabad, 570 km from Bengaluru, as the company used to send its goods from Bengaluru to Europe and then reached Hyderabad from Europe.
Prime Minister Modi said that these were the situation then due to tax and toll and I am reminding you of just an old example. Then there were millions of companies and millions of countrymen who had daily problems due to different taxes. The expenses that used to increase between one city to another, the poor also had to bear the poor. He was charged from customers like you. It was very important to remove the country from this situation. When you gave us a chance in 2014, we made GST our priority in public interest and country interest.
Prime Minister Modi said that reform is a continuous process that varies with time and needs of the country. With the progress of the country, new generation improvement becomes necessary. Keeping this in mind and given the current needs and future aspirations, new improvements were made in the GST system. Only 5 percent and 18 percent tax slabs will be applicable in the new system, so that everyday essential things will be cheaper.
