Sarhasa. Amarendra Kumar, a farmer from Tilathi village of Saharsa district in Bihar, has achieved great success in the cultivation of arhar dal with the help of the government scheme. After the construction of a four-acre pond under the Chief Minister Samagra Chaur Vikas Yojana, he started fish farming and has now earned Rs 3 lakh from pigeon pea cultivation. Best Farmer Award of Saharsa District winner farmer Amarendra Kumar shared the story of his experience and struggle. Amarendra Kumar got the idea of improved cultivation of pigeon pea after seeing the success of a farmer from Madhya Pradesh on mobile. He contacted on phone and ordered one kilogram of seeds for Rs 950. He sowed these seeds at a distance of one meter x one meter on two acres of ridged land on the banks of his pond. The result of his hard work and modern farming methods was excellent. About 30 quintals of arhar dal was produced from a total of two acres of land, which was sold in the market for Rs 3 lakh. This became an important additional source of his income. Amarendra Kumar told that earlier he did not believe that such good cultivation of arhar dal was possible on the land of Kosi region. However, this became possible with the help of new experiments and government schemes. Amarendra Kumar has learned farming techniques from Narayanpur village located in Malda district of West Bengal. He also conducted an experiment at the local level on a small pond in 10 acres of land.
This initial success and government support led him to a large pond of four acres and successful cultivation of pigeon pea. This success of Amarendra Kumar has now become a source of inspiration for other farmers. This shows that with the right guidance, government support and use of modern agricultural techniques, the rural economy can be taken to new heights. –
