Srinagar, June 19 (). Seven workers suffered burn injuries in a chimney fire at a cement factory in Khonmoh on the outskirts of Srinagar late on Thursday night. Among the injured, the condition of one laborer is said to be critical, while the other six are undergoing treatment in the hospital. After the incident, police and administration reached the spot and started investigation.
According to the information received, the accident occurred in a cement factory located in Khonmoh when the workers were engaged in regular work in the factory premises. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a sudden fire broke out in the chimney of the factory, causing chaos among the workers present there. Seven workers got burnt due to the fire and the intense heat emanating from it.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the factory management and relief team immediately started the rescue operation. All the injured were evacuated from the spot and taken to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for special treatment. The hospital administration has admitted the injured to the emergency and burn care unit, where a team of specialist doctors is monitoring them.
The police officer said that the treatment of all the seven injured laborers is ongoing. He said that one worker has suffered serious burns and his condition is critical, while the condition of the remaining six workers is said to be stable. Doctors are constantly monitoring his health condition.
According to hospital sources, special medical care is being provided to the seriously injured laborer. Necessary treatment is also being given to other injured people. The family members are being regularly informed about the condition of the patients by the hospital administration.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the matter and started investigation. Officials said a special team has been formed to find out the actual cause of the accident. During the investigation, it will also be seen whether the prescribed safety standards and mandatory safety protocols were being followed in the factory or not. The administration has said that necessary action will be taken after the investigation report comes. Action is being taken after the facts that have emerged in the initial investigation.
