Chennai, May 3 (). Former Director General of Tamil Nadu Police (DGP) S.R. While reminiscing the memories of his tenure, Jangid mentioned many important events. He described the success of controlling caste violence in Tirunelveli in 1995 as his greatest achievement.
Speaking to news agency , Jangid said that in 1995, there was serious caste violence in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts. Many killings and clashes were taking place. He took over as SP of Tirunelveli on 5 December 1995. He said, “I boosted the morale of the striking force and worked closely with the police personnel deployed across the area. In just two-three months, we were able to completely control caste violence. This achievement was the result of the collective efforts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi police.”
He further said that his striking force served for four years (two years in Tirunelveli and two years in Thoothukudi). Recently, he honored his old team by attending the retirement ceremony of Anjur, who retired from Grade-1 constable to SI. He said, “I had gone there to thank everyone. We refreshed our memories by watching old videos and photos. In those days, officers and soldiers were on duty 24 hours a day. It was difficult to spend time with families. This meeting was heart-warming.”
On ‘Bavaria Operation’ and the film ‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru’, Jangid told that when he was the IG of North Zone, ‘Bavaria Operation’ was conducted, in which there was great success in catching the criminals. He himself narrated the story of the film ‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru’ based on this operation to film director Vinod. On the request of director Vinod, Jangid also played a small role of an honest police officer in the film. He had clearly said that he would not play the role of a villain.
Recently Jangid has also done a small cameo role in Tamil superstar Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Gana Mana’. This role is only of one minute. He told, “Director Vinod called me for the shooting. I went. After reaching there, I came to know that the film is ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and Vijay is in the lead role in it. Even before this I have worked in two films, but this is special.”
Talking about politics or elections, Jangid said, “After retirement, one is not bound by any specific rules. One has the freedom to live life like a common citizen.”
