UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that any change in the situation in the Gaza Strip must maintain its unity with the West Bank and the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. On the possibility of deployment of stabilization force in Gaza, he said that it would have to be taken forward only with the approval of the Security Council. The top UN official said this while addressing a press conference during the Second World Social Development Conference held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Secretary-General Guterres was questioned on coordination with Israel in connection with US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for the Gaza Strip. Under this plan prepared by the United States, Arab countries and international partners, it is proposed to deploy a temporary, international stabilization force. Secretary-General Guterres said that the United Nations is actively trying to increase the level of humanitarian assistance to the needy Palestinian population in Gaza. He said that with the help of America it has been possible to remove some of the obstacles imposed by Israel. Some difficulties remain. “We are actively supporting the principle that the ceasefire must continue, that all parties must comply with it, and that whatever way the next phase is carried out must maintain the relationship between Gaza and the West Bank.” The UN chief said that this would lead to a two-state solution and the recognition of an independent Palestinian state. UN News According to the Secretary-General, the US is working with other countries to draft a Security Council resolution on Gaza, although the UN Secretariat is not part of the discussion. “We believe that whatever body is created in Gaza, it should have the legitimacy of the Security Council mandate.” According to him, this transition period will have to move towards a situation where Gaza and the West Bank are united and the Palestinian Authority can exercise its full administrative authority. Could do. Humanitarian Aid Efforts The availability of food in Gaza is gradually improving, but the need to continue the supply of humanitarian aid has been stressed. UN humanitarian agencies have also appealed for increased access to relief routes and continued financial support. Last month, millions of people began returning to northern Gaza, where famine was declared in late August this year. world food program ,WFP) spokesperson Abeer Aitefa said that only limited food aid is available to Palestinians returning to this area. © UNOCHA/Charlotte Cans Many people returned here to find that their homes had been destroyed, while those living in the southern part of Gaza were displaced in tents and had no access to food and other services. Abeer Atefa, giving information from Cairo, said that three and a half weeks have passed since the ceasefire came into effect in a critical situation. The UN Food Program has delivered food packets to 1 million people, although their target was to reach 1.6 million people, as part of a broader effort to avert a hunger crisis in Gaza. “Supplies are still very limited. So each family is receiving a reduced amount of food supplies, which is one packet, which is enough food for 10 days.” Checkpoints need to be opened and access to important roads in Gaza is also necessary. Border posts still closed UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian AidOCHA) said that since September 12, no food aid convoys have reached the north directly through border posts. “We still have only two border posts that are operational,” Kissufim in central Gaza and Kerem Shalom in the south. According to WFP, this will provide sufficient quantities to stabilize markets and meet the needs of civilians. The UN Food Agency’s spokesperson said that 17 WFP-supported bakeries have provided fresh bread to more than seven million people, and the goal is to increase the number of these active bakeries to 25. This help matters. WFP communications officer Noor Hammad told from Gaza that the situation in Gaza can be seen as dire, but there is also relief on the faces of the people that the guns have fallen silent. But there is also doubt whether this silence will continue or not. He said that Gazans have described the destruction caused by the violent conflict of the last two years as similar to the destruction caused by an earthquake. Noor Hammad said that in the last few days he has visited many aid distribution centers and people have told him the same thing. The aid they are receiving matters. After months of sporadic meals, only one meal a day, and such, the Palestinian population is receiving fresh bread, food packets, cash, nutrition and other support. Noor Hammad said that food is returning to local stores, but its prices are out of the reach of ordinary families. For example, the price of an apple is the same as the price of a kilo of apples two years ago. Due to the ongoing war for the last two years, the resources of the common people have been exhausted.
