Chandigarh. Sirsa MP, former Union Minister and National General Secretary of Congress Kumari Selja has expressed deep concern over the rapidly spreading drug trap in Haryana, especially in the districts adjoining Punjab. He said that the increasing problem of drug abuse in the state has taken a very serious form, but the state government is not showing the required seriousness in this regard. Kumari Selja alleged that the state administration seems almost paralyzed in front of drug smugglers, due to which the lives of the youth are continuously getting ruined. He said that the government is limited to only formal rhetoric, while effective action is not visible at the ground level. He said that the problem of drug addiction cannot be seen only within the scope of law and order. Increasing unemployment in the state is also a major reason for pushing the youth towards drugs and crime. Unless the government takes concrete steps on employment generation, the fight against drugs will remain incomplete. Kumari Selja demanded that the government should prepare a comprehensive and time-bound action plan against drug addiction and the society, experts and opposition should also be taken into confidence, so that a joint campaign could be run at the state level. He said that if strict and coordinated steps are not taken in time, the situation may become more frightening. He has demanded from the state government to provide employment to the youth, take strict action against drug smugglers and run special campaigns in the affected areas, so that concrete progress can be ensured towards making Haryana drug free.
Demand for stoppage of Sirsa-Kota Express:
Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency MP Kumari Selja has written a letter to the Railway Minister demanding reinstatement of stoppage of Sirsa-Kota-Sirsa Express at Ding Mandi (Sirsa) railway station and resumption of operation of Firozpur-Mumbai Janata Express (train number 19023/19024). He said that earlier the stoppage of Sirsa-Kota Express provided great convenience to the passengers, students and patients of 20-25 nearby villages, but due to closure of the stoppage, people are facing unnecessary problems.
Kumari Selja also mentioned in her letter that the Ferozepur-Mumbai Janta Express was temporarily closed during the Covid period, which has not been started till now. This train has been an important link for passengers from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Keeping in view the public sentiments and regional needs, he urged the Railway Ministry to take positive decisions on both the demands and take immediate action.
