The results of all 243 seats of Bihar Assembly elections have been declared. However, Grand Alliance’s Deputy Chief Minister and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni got swept away in the NDA tsunami. During the elections, there was a lot of talk about Mukesh Sahni’s political dealings with the NDA and the Grand Alliance. However, Mukesh Sahni eventually joined the Grand Alliance and became the Deputy Chief Minister, replacing Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
On the other hand, Inderjit Prasad Gupta of the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) managed to win one seat without joining any alliance. It is noteworthy that IIP chief IP Gupta himself had contested the elections from Saharsa assembly seat.
VIP contested elections on 15 seats
In fact, during the seat sharing talks before the assembly elections, VIP chief Mukesh Sahni had staked his claim on 60 seats. However, after much negotiation they agreed to 15 seats. In the 2020 assembly elections, VIP contested 11 seats. Not only this, Mukesh Sahni was also successful in winning three seats from the Grand Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections.
VIP party lags behind IIP
Mukesh Sahni’s party VIP lagged behind the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) in this election. Despite fielding candidates on 15 seats, Mukesh Sahni could not even open his account, while IIP managed to win one seat. During the election campaign, Mukesh Sahni was continuously seen with Tejashwi Yadav.
IP Gupta won from Saharsa
It is noteworthy that Inderjit Prasad Gupta, also known as IP Gupta, had contested the election from Saharsa Assembly seat from IIP, while Alok Ranjan Jha of BJP had contested the election. Jan Suraj Party had fielded Kishore Kumar from this seat. Inderjit Prasad Gupta won this seat by a margin of 2038 votes.
