The junior doctors of Hallett Hospital (Lala Lajpat Rai) in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh crossed all limits of negligence. They declared a living patient dead and also sent a Police Information Report (PI) to Swaroop police station. On receiving the information, a police team reached the emergency ward. When the police arrived to collect the body for postmortem, they were surprised to see that the old man, who was declared dead, was still breathing. Everyone was surprised by this information.
According to reports, junior doctors declared the patient dead without examining him. On December 24, the police of Govindnagar police station admitted an elderly man to Hallett Hospital in an unconscious state. Junior doctors declared him dead without checking any vital parameters. He also sent a Police Information Report (PI) to Govindnagar police station.
The patient was alive.
The police reached the hospital and were preparing to send the elderly man for postmortem after completing the legal process. But, the presence of police officers revealed that the patient who was declared dead was actually breathing. This information created panic in the entire hospital and the patient’s life was saved. The treatment of the elderly patient is going on under the supervision of senior doctor Brijesh Kumar in ward number 12, where his condition is now said to be stable.
Demand for strict action arose
When other patients and their families learned that the living patient had been declared dead, many questions arose. He demanded strict action against negligent doctors. Dr. Sanjay Kala, Principal of Hallett Medical College, has adopted a strict stance in this matter. He has ordered an inquiry against the junior doctors and said that action will soon be taken against the guilty doctor.
Chief Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. R.K. Singh said the elderly man was suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea. On Saturday, some junior doctors mistakenly declared him dead. After this, a Public Information Report (PI) was sent to Swarup Nagar Police Station for postmortem. However, investigation revealed that he was alive.
