Kolkata . Two employees of a Gujarat businessman were allegedly robbed by a gang on the pretext of a business transaction. After looting Rs 42 lakh from them, the accused allegedly kidnapped both the employees and forcibly put them in a car. It is alleged that the two men were later taken to the Kona Expressway in Howrah district and thrown out of the car. After learning about the incident, the businessman from Gujarat reached Kolkata and lodged a formal complaint, police said on Tuesday. This incident of alleged robbery took place in Survey Park area of South Kolkata. The businessman lodged a complaint at the Survey Park police station, after which a case of robbery and kidnapping was registered. Police have started investigation and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused.
Police said that this incident took place in the first week of this month. The businessman, a resident of Gandhinagar, Gujarat, was allegedly approached by some people from Kolkata in connection with a business deal.
The suspects identified themselves as businessmen and discussed sending some goods from Kolkata to Gujarat. It was told that if he paid Rs 42 lakh, the goods would be sent immediately.
After this agreement, the Gandhinagar businessman sent money to Kolkata through two of his employees. They were taken to a house in New Santoshpur area of South Kolkata. Upon reaching there, the employees were allegedly asked to hand over the cash, while they demanded delivery of goods in return.
It is alleged that after this both the employees were locked in a room of the same house. Around six armed men allegedly held them at gunpoint and snatched a bag containing Rs 42 lakh from the employees.
The accused then took the victims in a vehicle and dropped them on the Kona Expressway before fleeing the scene. The victims somehow managed to reach Howrah railway station and returned to Gujarat, where they informed the businessman about the entire incident.
Then, the businessmen reached Kolkata and lodged a complaint at the Survey Park police station regarding the kidnapping and robbery of the employees. Police are now trying to identify the house where the victims were kept. The investigators are also trying to trace the vehicle and identify the accused through the contact numbers used to contact the businessman. At the same time, CCTV footage is also being scrutinized.
