Haryana Government has prepared a comprehensive and multi-dimensional action plan towards the revitalization of Yamuna River and pollution control. Under this, additional sewage and industrial waste water treatment capacity of 580 million liters per day (MLD) will be developed in the state. Along with this, 9 biogas plants will be established for scientific disposal of 1,455 tonnes of organic waste per day. The objective of these projects is to reduce pollutants falling into Yamuna, improve water quality and strengthen the ecosystem of the river. The progress of these projects was reviewed by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi in a high-level review meeting of Yamuna pollution control measures here today. He directed all the implementing agencies to expedite the ongoing projects, resolve the pending bottlenecks expeditiously and complete all the work within the stipulated time frame.
In the meeting, Haryana State Pollution Control Board Chairman Vinay Pratap Singh said that under the proposed infrastructure, 10 sewage treatment plants (STP) with 423.5 MLD capacity will be established, which will cost approximately Rs 828.88 crore. Apart from this, 9 Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) with 156.5 MLD capacity will be set up to treat industrial waste water. Apart from this, construction work of two CETPs of 30 MLD capacity is also in progress.
It was informed in the meeting that two sewage treatment plants are near completion. About 95 percent work of 3 MLD capacity STP in Matlauda, Panipat has been completed and the target is to complete it by July 31, 2026. At the same time, 85 percent work of 2 MLD capacity STP in Bajgheda, Gurugram has been completed and it is planned to be commissioned by August 31, 2026.
The Chief Secretary also conducted a detailed review of the proposed STP program with a capacity of 423.5 MLD. Under this, new projects will be established in Dhanwapur, Behrampur, Naurangpur and Sector-107 of Gurugram, Mirzapur of Faridabad and Surajkund, Sonipat, Kundli and Samalkha of Panipat.
Officials told in the meeting that tenders have been invited for various projects, negotiations have been completed in many cases and deadlines have been set for the execution of the works. The remaining projects are in various approval stages. Nine Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) related to industrial pollution control were also reviewed in the meeting. Among these, CETPs will be established in Pratapgarh and Mirzapur of Faridabad, Badshahpur and Sector-18, 34 and 37 of Gurugram, Kundli of Sonipat, Sector-29 of Panipat and Kundli Industrial Area.
The officials informed the Chief Secretary about the progress of land acquisition, Detailed Project Report (DPR), tender process and necessary statutory approvals. It was informed in the meeting that 9 biogas plants will be set up in Sonipat, Faridabad, Gurugram, Karnal, Rohtak and Yamunanagar, with a total processing capacity of 1,455 tonnes per day (TPD). These projects are being implemented by Panchayati Raj Department, Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HREDA), GAIL and BPCL. Their objective is to ensure scientific disposal of organic waste as well as to produce clean and green energy.
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi said that revitalization of Yamuna river is among the top priorities of the state government. He directed all concerned departments to work with better mutual coordination, ensure regular and effective monitoring of projects and complete all approved and proposed projects within the stipulated time frame. He said that with the completion of these projects, Haryana’s pollution control system will be further strengthened, the flow of polluted water in Yamuna will reduce and the environmental health of the river will improve significantly.
Additional Chief Secretary of Irrigation and Water Resources Department Anurag Aggarwal, Commissioner and Secretary of Urban Local Bodies Department Ashok Kumar Meena, Managing Director of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Sushil Sarwan and other senior officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
