The Ravi river has calmed down after showing its devastating power. The flood of Ravi River has made it clear that nature is molesting or playing unavoidable. Life has become normal in the villages situated on the banks of river Ravi. People from Punjab and many parts of the country have given their full support. The villages were drowning, but there were hopes that they would soon be free from this crisis. This devastating flood marks have become even more frightening. Actually, the flood waters had immersed the villages. Now that the water has reduced, the pictures that have come out reflect the horrors of this flood. It is sad to think that many villages were submerged in twenty -five to thirty feet deep water. Electric poles and giant trees standing in Pedewala of Ajnala testify to the climax of the water level.
Electric poles and wires at a height of 30 feet are covered with moss and grass growing in water. The villagers say that when the water entered the village, the villagers took shelter on the roofs, but when the water started touching the roof, the NDRF teams took them out of the houses to a safe place. On seeing this, our houses drowned in water.
We knew that the water had reached 10 to 12 feet above, but it did not know that it would be more than 25 feet. Not only this, many big trees are also covered with moss and grass growing in water. If the water level of the Ravi river had not reduced, then the water level in the villages would undoubtedly increase.
This could cause huge destruction. Water also showed its form in the village of Ghor. The entire village was submerged and people had to take shelter. The flow of water was so fast that he did not spare anyone. The villagers still fear that such a catastrophe may happen again.
Significantly, the water of Ravi river broke the Dhusi dam and entered the Sakki drain. Sakki Nala is an inhibitor absorbing the water of the river, but after heavy rains in the hilly areas, the water of Ranjit Sagar Dam went into the Ravi river.
In such a situation, Sakki Nala could not protect its boundaries. The electric poles of the village, which were once a ray of light, are now covered with moss and water grass, which testify to the amount of Ravi’s water. Tower, wires and cable networks installed for internet connection in villages have also been destroyed.
After the flood, Powercom had cut the power supply to the villages of Ajnala. Although the supply is now restored, some villages are still in darkness due to technical fault. Repair work is underway by Powercom.
Here, relief work that started after the flood also became an example of humanity, but even in the midst of this flood of help, the marks of Ravi’s havoc are present everywhere. Mud spread in the fields, broken walls of homes, vacant children’s books and empty cattle enclosures – all of which say that it was not just a flood, it was the biggest examination of life.
