Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is accused of obtaining nuclear intelligence from Iran and giving it to America. Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson made this claim, citing intelligence sources; Later this matter was discussed in the US Congress. Darr is accused of sharing new information about Iran’s nuclear program with Rubio during a meeting last week – revelations that shocked Rubio.
However, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has rejected these allegations outright. In a statement, a State Department spokesperson stressed that Dar did not discuss Iran’s nuclear program at all during his meeting with Rubio. These allegations are even more serious because Pakistan is currently playing the role of mediator in the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and America.
**Debate in US Congress**
In his own words, Larry Johnson said that during a meeting with Rubio, Darr provided the US Secretary of State with classified information about Iran’s intentions regarding its nuclear program. Dar is said to have warned that if a diplomatic agreement was not reached with Iran soon, it could move towards developing nuclear weapons. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran currently has 440 kg of uranium with 60 percent purity. If it can be further purified to 90 percent – the level required for weapons-grade material – it can easily be used to make nuclear weapons. According to US President Donald Trump, if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, it will threaten Israel’s existence, because Iran will target Israel first.
**First Rubio, then Pakistan denied**
On June 2, when Rubio appeared before the US Congress, Congressman Scott Perry asked him questions on the matter. In response, Rubio said, “I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t heard anything about it. All I know is that Iran can’t make a nuclear weapon.” Two days later – on 4 June – Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry formally denied these reports. The ministry said that the topic of Iran’s nuclear program was neither raised nor discussed during the meeting between Dar and Rubio. Meanwhile, Iran has refrained from commenting on this entire issue.
