New Delhi . An important development has come to light on Saturday amid the ongoing tussle between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the West Bengal government. Mamata government of West Bengal has filed a caveat application in the Supreme Court. This step has been taken at a time when the possibility of ED approaching the Supreme Court in the case related to I-Pack was being raised. By filing the caveat, the West Bengal government has clearly urged the apex court that if any petition or appeal is filed in this matter, then no order should be passed without hearing the state government. The purpose of this move of the government is to ensure that the court gives full opportunity of being heard to the party concerned before passing any ex-parte order. Actually, Mamata government feared that ED might approach the Supreme Court regarding this matter. Keeping this in mind, this step has been taken. On the other hand, the Enforcement Directorate is also mulling over its legal strategy in this entire matter. It is believed that ED is also seriously considering legal options, which also includes going to the Supreme Court. However, the ED is assessing all aspects and possible legal avenues before taking a final decision.
Earlier, the ED had moved the High Court on Friday. ED had drawn the court’s attention to the fact that its investigation was deliberately obstructed so that the work was affected. In the petition filed by ED, a demand was made for a CBI investigation into the case. Besides, the agency also filed an application in the court seeking permission to register a case in this regard. During this, ED told the court that during the investigation conducted on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took many important documents and information with herself.
Let us inform that amid the ED raid on the office of I-PACK and the residence of its co-founder Prateek Jain on Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with senior officials of the state administration and police had reached Prateek Jain’s house and then office on Thursday. During this time, he had allegedly taken out some files and electronic documents and kept them in his car.
