Dubai, June 30 (). Indian spinner Shri Charani remains the world number 1 T20 international bowler in the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday. However, England’s Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell have strengthened their position in the race to reach the top after their stellar performance in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Shri Charani took 14 wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Indian team’s campaign in this tournament has ended, but players from Australia, West Indies, England and South Africa are playing in the knockout stage. In such a situation, there is a threat to Shri Charani’s leadership.
Ecclestone has moved up one place to third in the bowlers’ rankings with eight wickets so far in the tournament, while England’s fast bowler Bell has made an even bigger leap and has moved up three places to fourth. South African spinner Nongkululeko Mlaba has gained one place. Now she is at fifth position, while Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu has moved up one place to ninth position.
In other notable changes in the bowling rankings, South African all-rounder Marizanne Capp has moved up seven places to 14th, Scotland captain Katherine Bryce has moved up 17 places to 26th and New Zealand fast bowler Bree Illing has moved up six places to 31st.
Australian opener Georgia Woll remains the number-1 batsman in this format despite her poor performance in the last match of the group stage against India.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt moved up one place to joint third, while Sri Lankan captain Chamri Atapattu moved up two places to seventh after scoring an unbeaten century against Ireland during the group stage.
England opener Danny Wyatt-Hodge has jumped five places to reach 11th position. Australian player Ellyse Perry also climbed five places to number 17, South Africa’s Anne Derksen climbed four places to number 24 and Scotland’s Darcy Carter climbed 13 places to number 42.
There has been no change at the top of the rankings for T20 all-rounders. West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has retained her number 1 position, ahead of New Zealand’s Mellie Kerr. Among the top all-rounders, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast made the biggest jump, moving up two places to joint third. Kapp has reached eighth place, while Bryce has reached 11th place.
