New Delhi. New dimensions of trade opened up between the two countries on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Malaysia. Malaysian House of Representatives member M. Kulasegaran said regarding trade with India that this deal is not happening overnight but has been happening between the two countries for years. Is going to become one of the largest economically prosperous countries in the world. Malaysia Parliament member M. Kulasegaran said about the India-Malaysia agreement, “I think all these business deals did not happen overnight, whereas it has been happening for years. Our relationship with India is not of yesterday or the day after tomorrow. It is thousands of years old. We are trading with India. There are historical records going back 5000 years. Traders used to come to Malaysia and trade, but recently it has become very technical, different and challenging. You have tariffs. There are also competitors, you have challenges etc., so these trade agreements will reduce this risk factor and bring better trade agreements between India and Malaysia. I am hopeful that it will reach a higher level.” Regarding the agreement with India and the European Union, he said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the biggest deal among all the agreements with Europe and America, it is very surprising. I think this is the nature of India. India has got a great and forward-thinking Prime Minister. This is something that people should preserve and it is necessary. How will we benefit from this, this is also a new kind of thinking that the leaders of this country should also think about and move towards. If we look at India as the leader of the new economic bloc, Malaysia will benefit from this. These are the cooperations we can do together.”
On trade with India regarding Sukhoi, the Malaysian Parliament member said that the defense sector is something which we should understand first. India has reached the international level only in the last one or two decades. Before that it was just for his own use, but his plane and everything, he has also been exhibiting in Malaysian trade fairs. This is good because Malaysia also needs this kind of plane and arm drill. It is good that Malaysia is taking this matter forward, but one thing we should not forget is that India has two advantages, cost element and technology. He has defeated all the arms dealers around the world. No one can beat India in cost element and secondly, technological advantage and friendly nature. And I think it’s definitely a win-win situation for Malaysia as well.
Regarding the UPI system, he said that it is great because it shows that these are business ventures and avenues that have never been tried before. These are new things, and they have come a long way. They have progressed a lot. It is modern and efficient and will be used extensively in this country, and I hope it will do very well.
