India-UN Development Partnership Fund helpful in taking forward the 2030 Development Agenda

The United Nations has said that the India-UN Development Partnership Fund is a testament to India’s long-term support to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and strengthen solidarity among countries in the Global South, thereby positioning India as an active leader in South-South cooperation. India-UN Development Partnership Fund, in this spirit, is running development projects in many countries. The Fund was launched in 2017 with a commitment of $150 million, is operated in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, and is managed by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). The Fund’s annual report highlights the results of more than 80 projects implemented so far in 63 countries. These include advancing inclusive education for children with disabilities in Nicaragua, Projects include strengthening food resilience in Suriname, expanding telemedicine for maternal health in the Kyrgyz Republic, and providing vocational training for women and youth in Burundi. Another Year of Impactful Results Dima Al-Khatib, Director of UNOSSC, said as we celebrate another year of the India-United Nations Development Partnership Fund’s remarkable journey, it is important that this The Fund is one of the shining examples of India’s solidarity and embodiment of South-South cooperation. “The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) is proud to partner with India to manage this Fund and, most importantly, proud of the impressive results achieved through the partnership of 13 UN system entities in least developed countries, small island developing states and landlocked developing countries,” she said. Dima Al-Khatib The Fund’s annual report highlights how projects being implemented in various developing countries are leveraging the UN system’s technical expertise on the ground to support sustainable development initiatives. “Also, projects are being expanded across borders, taking advantage of South-South cooperation in sharing knowledge and expertise.” The focus is on innovation in education, health resilience, as well as financing for development. He said, “We look forward to our continued partnership with the India-UNFund, which is an icon of South-South cooperation and inspires policy innovation and sustainable change around the world.” UNOSSC Example of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Ambassador P Harish, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, spoke about South-South Cooperation and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to the guiding principle of “the world is one family”. He said that the essence of this program is to ensure that India’s development and partnerships are guided by the priorities and key focus areas of our partner countries, that is, it also takes into account the needs and priorities of India’s partner countries. He said that this fund focuses primarily on the development needs of small island developing countries, least developing countries and landlocked developing countries. “The uniqueness of this fund is that “The projects are nationally driven and tailored specifically to the countries,” meaning that these projects take into account the local realities, priorities and needs of those countries. Dr. (Mrs.) D. Purandeswari, an Indian Parliamentarian and Chairperson of the Indian delegation to the event, addressed the event and said that India has shown that development is possible through inclusive and sustainable progress. She said, “Our efforts in poverty reduction, health care, and education are The experiences have guided our development initiatives in our partner countries.” “We believe in South-South cooperation, and we have worked with other developing countries to share our expertise, including through the use of capacity building programs.”
