New Delhi. Indian Railways fitted 116 additional coaches in 37 trains to ease travel disruptions due to IndiGo flight cancellations. Keeping in view the increasing demand of passengers, Railways has taken extensive steps to ensure smooth travel and adequate facilities across the network. A total of 116 additional coaches have been added to 37 trains, making more than 114 additional trips across the country. Southern Railway (SR) has made the highest number of enhancements, increasing capacity in 18 trains. Additional chaircar and sleeper class coaches have been installed on high demand routes. These enhancements, which will come into effect from 6 December 2025, will significantly increase housing capacity in the southern region. Northern Railway (NR) has taken the scheme forward by adding 3AC and chair car coaches in eight trains. These measures, implemented from Friday, will increase the availability of trains on the heavily congested Northern Corridor. Western Railways (WR) has increased the strength of four high-demand trains by adding 3AC and 2AC coaches. The increase, effective from December 6, has been made keeping in mind the increasing movement of passengers from western areas to the national capital. East Central Railway (ECR) has strengthened Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi (12309) service with additional 2AC coaches in five trips between 6-10 December, thereby providing increased capacity on this important Bihar-Delhi sector.
East Coast Railway (ECOR) has improved connectivity between Odisha and the capital by adding 2AC coaches for five trips in Bhubaneswar-New Delhi services (train no. 20817/20811/20823). Eastern Railway (ER) has implemented enhancements in three major trains, adding sleeper class coaches in six trips on December 7-8, to meet the growing demand for regional and inter-state travel in the east.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has added 3AC and sleeper coaches to two important trains for eight trips each from December 6 to 13, ensuring uninterrupted capacity for passengers in the Northeast. Along with these facilities, Indian Railways is also running four special trains for the convenience of passengers. Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal-Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) will make four trips between December 7 and 9. New Delhi-Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan-New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) will run on 6th December, which will provide fast and comfortable connectivity to Jammu region.
To meet the higher demand towards the Western Region, New Delhi-Mumbai Central-New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special (04002/04001) will operate on 6th and 7th December. Additionally, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central reserved superfast special (04080) will run one-way on December 6, providing long distance connectivity towards the southern region.
These steps related to capacity addition in various zones and operation of special trains reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to ease the journey of passengers, ensure adequate facilities and provide timely transportation options in this era of increasing demand. –
