Srinagar . Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat on Wednesday informed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha about the terrorist attack in Anantnag town. A local policeman was martyred in this attack. DGP Prabhat, Special DGP Javed Mujtaba Geelani and IGP Kashmir VK Birdi reached Anantnag town to inspect the search operation launched to trace the attackers. Lieutenant Governor Sinha strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Anantnag. He said the culprits would be brought to justice.
In a post on social media platform X, the Lieutenant Governor said he spoke to DGP Nalin Prabhat to review the situation after the attack. He said that I strongly condemn this cowardly attack. This heinous act will not go unpunished.
He expressed deep condolences to the family of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi who lost his life in the line of duty.
He said that my heartfelt condolences to the family of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi. The entire country is standing shoulder to shoulder with the martyr’s family.
The LG further said that Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces are present at the spot and are conducting operations to nab those behind the attack.
Meanwhile, Anantnag Police has issued a strict warning to citizens and social media platforms not to circulate unauthorized photographs, videos and unverified content related to the recent terror incident at Lal Chowk in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and said strict legal action will be taken against violators.
As per the police advisory, several social media users and platforms are sharing unauthorized visuals, doctored photographs, edited video clips and misleading information related to the incident.
Officials said such dissemination could hamper ongoing investigations, create panic among the public and spread misinformation. Anantnag Police has urged all social media platforms and users to immediately remove any unauthorized or fake content related to the terror incident.
The advisory warns that strict legal action will be taken under relevant provisions of law against any person who continues to spread such material even after the issue of this public notice.
Police have appealed to the public to be responsible on social media and avoid sending or uploading unverified information. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official updates issued by the police and other authorized government agencies for accurate information regarding the incident.
The police stressed that maintaining public order and preventing the spread of misinformation is a collective responsibility. He urged full cooperation from the public to avoid dissemination of unauthorized content.
According to police sources, bike-borne terrorists shot dead a police head constable while patrolling in Anantnag town.
Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, head constable of the third battalion of IRP, was a resident of Beerwah town of Budgam district.
Security forces have launched a massive cordon and search operation in Anantnag town to nab the attackers. All entry and exit points of the town have been sealed.
