Doda. Under the Central Government’s ambitious Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), work is being done rapidly to strengthen road connectivity in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the local people due to this. PMGSY Executive Engineer Zakir Hussain Zargar said that under PMGSY Phase-4 (First Batch), the Central Government has approved about 31 new roads in Doda district. He said that after the completion of the tender process, 26 of these roads have been allotted to contractors under PMGSY Division Doda. Of these, construction work has started on 20 roads, while work on the remaining 6 roads will start soon. He expressed hope that the Central Government will soon approve the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the villages which have not yet been connected to the road network, so that road construction work can start there too. Zakir Hussain Zargar said that Doda district has about 70 percent hilly area, due to which road construction here is a challenging task. Despite this, efforts are being made to provide roads to every village under the PMGSY scheme. He said that earlier people had to face a lot of problems due to lack of roads, but now the general public is getting huge benefits from this scheme. Meanwhile, local resident Sadiq Malik expressed his gratitude to the Central Government for the PMGSY scheme.
He said that through this scheme, remote areas are being directly connected to the district headquarters. Earlier, people had to face serious problems due to bad and unpaved roads. Many times patients did not get timely treatment, which even resulted in loss of life, but now with the construction of roads, the situation has improved a lot.
Sadiq Malik told that he does business in Doda and his house is about 30 kilometers away from here. Earlier it used to take a lot of time to travel, but now due to better roads it has become possible to reach home in just an hour. He expressed hope that in the coming time, other villages will also get road facilities. He said that the PMGSY scheme is benefiting people in every way and it has given a new impetus to the development of the area. –
