New Delhi . Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will be in India on her first official visit from July 1 to 3, 2026. During this, she will participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The main objective of the visit is to give new impetus to strategic, economic and technological cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs has given a brief description of the Japanese PM’s program. According to this, Prime Minister Takaichi will reach New Delhi’s Air Force Station (AFS) Palam at 7 pm on July 1, where he will be officially welcomed. His formal welcome ceremony will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 2 at 10 am. After this, he will have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House at 11:30 am. The two leaders are likely to discuss defence, economic security, trade, investment, semiconductors, clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), telecommunications and regional and global issues.
After the meeting, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be exchanged between the two countries at 1:10 pm. After this, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi will issue a joint press statement.
At 3 pm, Prime Minister Takaichi will participate in the India-Japan Business Forum organized at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi, where prominent representatives of the industry of both the countries will be present. This program is likely to have a special emphasis on promoting investment, trade and industrial cooperation.
One of the major objectives of the 16th summit is to take forward the ‘Joint Declaration on Economic Security Cooperation’, which was signed only last year. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the purpose of this agreement is to strengthen the defense capabilities and military preparedness of both the countries. For this, emphasis will be laid on better coordination, joint exercises and increasing cooperation between the two armies.
The Japanese Prime Minister will leave for Tokyo at 11 am on July 3, the last day of the three-day visit.
