Bengaluru. A Karnataka court has sent BJP MLA from Bengaluru’s KR Puram assembly constituency Byrathi Basavaraj to judicial custody till February 26 in a murder case. This order was passed by the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court on Saturday. Basavaraj will now be shifted to Bengaluru Central Jail on the outskirts of the city. Basavaraj has been made an accused in the murder case of criminal Shivprakash alias Biklu Shiva. He was detained as soon as he reached Kempegowda International Airport after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Karnataka High Court. Later the Supreme Court also refused to give him relief. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) interrogated the MLA in this case. According to the investigating agencies, custodial interrogation of Basavaraj is necessary for a thorough investigation of the case and to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the murder. BJP has described this action as politically motivated and has accused the state government of conspiracy. BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra visited Basavaraj’s residence and supported him.
He said that Basavaraj had helped bring BJP to power by leaving Congress and now he has been implicated in a false case. Vijayendra also claimed that his family has also faced false cases in the past. Bikalu Shiva was murdered with sharp weapons in front of his house in Bengaluru’s Halasuru area on July 15 last year. According to the police, Basavaraj has been made the fifth accused in the murder case.
This FIR was registered at Bharatinagar police station in Bengaluru on the basis of the complaint of the mother of the deceased. However, the deceased’s mother later claimed that she had not named the BJP MLA in her complaint and she did not know how his name was included in the FIR.
Police say that during the investigation, Basavaraj’s relationship with the main accused Rodi Jagdish alias Jagga has been established. According to the police, Basavaraj had direct links with Jagga and had also met Biklu Shiva several times before the murder. Investigation of the matter is ongoing. –
