A shocking news has come to light in Dharwad, Karnataka, in which a person accused under the ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act’ (POCSO) allegedly made threatening calls to a minor victim from inside the jail. The case, which came to light on Monday, has taken a communal tinge, as the victim and the accused belong to different communities. A video of this conversation surfaced on social media and quickly went viral. According to sources, the accused made a video call to the victim from Dharwad Central Jail. In the footage, the accused allegedly shows the victim his name tattooed on his hand and threatens him. He demands that the victim give a statement in his favor during the court proceedings. Also, issue a statement that she loves him.
The accused allegedly harassed the minor by making repeated calls and threatened that he would meet the same fate as Neha Hiremath. Let us tell you that Neha Hiremath was a college student, who was stabbed to death by her rejected lover Faiyaz in a college campus in Hubli.
In the POCSO case, the accused has also threatened the girl that he will make her private video viral. The girl’s family has expressed deep anger over this security lapse and demanded immediate action. The authorities recently shifted the accused to Vijayapura jail following protests by Shri Ram Sena workers.
The development has sparked a heated debate regarding the illegal availability of mobile phones inside prisons and the prison authorities turning a blind eye to the matter.
Initial information revealed that the family had submitted evidence of the video call made by the accused on March 11.
Let us tell you that in another case, a man who was arrested on charges of kidnapping and rape of a minor, came out on bail, attacked the victim and threatened her to withdraw two complaints filed against him on Kembathahalli Road in Bengaluru.
The 24-year-old accused lured the victim into believing that he would marry her, abducted her and raped her. The police arrested him under the POCSO Act and sent him to judicial custody. Later, after coming out on bail, the accused and his relatives forcefully entered the victim’s house and attacked him, his father, mother and uncle. The police arrested him again and sent him to jail.
It may also be noted that family members of a 9-year-old girl, who was sexually assaulted by a driver, alleged that the family of the accused threatened them to withdraw the case. The accused, a resident of Tamil Nadu, worked in Bengaluru and is accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a girl. After the case was registered in Karnataka, the accused was hiding in Tamil Nadu and threatened the victim’s family.
