New Delhi . Khaleda Zia, the former and first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, died on 30 December 2025. Begum Khaleda was suffering from serious diseases for a long time and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest next to her husband and former President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka today after the Namaz-e-Janaza at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House. Representatives of other countries will also attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral. According to The Daily Star, party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has informed that Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will lead Zia’s funeral procession. BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan will conduct the proceedings. He appealed to all those attending to maintain strict discipline during the funeral procession and burial. The BNP leader also appealed to everyone to pray that Allah gives strength to the Zia family, especially her son and party’s acting president Tariq Rehman, to bear this loss and fulfill their responsibilities towards the country.
According to Bangladesh’s BSS media, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Bala Nand Sharma will reach Dhaka tonight to attend the funeral of Khaleda Zia. A press release issued by Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said the visit reflects Nepal’s deep respect for the late leader’s contribution in strengthening Nepal-Bangladesh relations during his three terms as Prime Minister of Nepal.
Foreign Minister from India S. Jaishankar will attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral. Apart from this, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will attend the funeral of Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to UNB Media, Jiah’s body was taken from Evercare Hospital to Tariq Rehman’s house on Gulshan Avenue on Wednesday morning. Khaleda Zia’s body, wrapped in the red and green national flag, in a freezer-van left the hospital at around 8:55 am and reached Tariq’s house at around 9:16 am.
Earlier, the body was kept in the hospital mortuary overnight before being taken to Gulshan. A large number of police have been deployed in and around Tariq Rehman’s Gulshan house to maintain law and order.
Khaleda’s mortal remains will be taken from Gulshan Ghar to the South Plaza of the National Parliament and her Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at 2:00 pm. After the funeral, she will be buried near the grave of her husband Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
Let us tell you, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 and she was also suffering from lung and heart infection. In between, an attempt was also made to airlift her abroad for better treatment, but Jiah’s condition was not so good that she could be sent for air travel. He died at around 6:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, after undergoing treatment for more than a month.
