Tail. Poonch Police has achieved another important success in the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and drug abuse. In Surankot police station area, the police has arrested a person with a drug like heroin. Police say that this action will strengthen efforts to curb drug trafficking in the area. According to the police, a team of Surankot police station was deployed in Mohra Wala Naka area as part of regular patrolling and checking operation. Meanwhile, the policemen saw a suspicious person coming on foot. Seeing the police, the person got scared and tried to run away from the spot. Suspicious of his behavior, the police immediately chased him and caught him at a short distance. When the arrested person was searched, about 4.23 grams of suspected drug like heroin was recovered from his possession. After the recovery, the police took the accused into custody and started further legal action. The arrested accused has been identified as Safir Ahmed. He is said to be the son of Naseer Ahmed and a resident of Samot village of Surankot tehsil.
The police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the law related to narcotics.
According to officials, an FIR has been registered in the matter and a detailed investigation has been initiated. The investigating agencies are trying to find out from where the recovered drug was brought, who are the people behind it and where it was to be supplied. The police are also investigating the possible trafficking network and the role of other related persons.
Poonch Police has reiterated that its action against drug trafficking will continue and strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities. The police have also appealed to the common people to immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity related to drugs, so that the efforts to make the society free from the evil of drugs can be made successful.
