Ahmedabad. A fire broke out after a massive explosion in an illegal firecracker factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Saturday. In this tragic accident, 8 employees died, while about 15 people were injured. The injured were immediately admitted to the hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. This accident happened in a factory located near Mahmoodpura Talent area on the road from Ramol to Gatrad. The explosion was so powerful that its sound was heard up to a distance of about 5 kilometers, causing panic in the surrounding areas. A Rapid Action Force (RAF) camp is located near the incident site. On hearing the loud sound of the explosion, RAF soldiers reached the spot and without wasting time started relief and rescue operations. The soldiers played an important role in safely evacuating the people trapped amidst the flames and debris.
As soon as the information was received, several fire department vehicles, ambulances and police teams reached the spot. Along with controlling the fire, the injured were taken to the hospital. According to preliminary information, about 25 employees were working in the factory at the time of the accident.
At present the police and administration are investigating the cause of the explosion. Initial investigation has revealed that the factory was being operated illegally. The authorities have started a detailed investigation into the matter and are preparing to take strict action against the culprits.
