Bhagwant Mann government’s ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ has provided great relief to Harmanpreet Kaur, a 51-year-old entrepreneur from Patiala who made it to the top-20 contestants of MasterChef India Season 6. Harmanpreet had been battling serious health issues, including complications related to brain haemorrhage, such as chronic bleeding, diabetes and psoriasis, for almost a decade. Harmanpreet, who was suffering from excessive bleeding during menstruation for almost two years, was admitted to Rajindra Hospital on 30 April 2026. He underwent successful laparoscopic operation on 2 May. Harmanpreet said that Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana not only reduced the financial burden of his treatment but also provided him quality health services on time. Harmanpreet’s health problems began after she suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2011, due to which she suffered neurological complications. The prolonged illness also affected the financial condition of the family.
Her husband had to leave a good private sector job to take care of her, while the medical expenses kept rising. A few years later, in the year 2025, she suffered from chronic bleeding during perimenopause. Because of his serious medical history, the risks of any operation involving anesthesia were high. Despite undergoing multiple treatments, including Mirena insertions in 2020 and 2024, her problem persisted and she continued to suffer from chronic bleeding for almost two years.
Giving information in this regard, Dr. Preet Kamal Sibiya, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, said, “Harmanpreet, who was moving towards menopause, was suffering from excessive menstrual bleeding for the last ten years. Along with this, she also had many other health problems including high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, psoriasis and neurological complications.”
Dr. Sibiya further said, “She had a large fibroid in her uterus and had previously been treated with medicines for a long time but did not get the expected success. After detailed investigation, our team performed a total laparoscopic hysterectomy operation on her. The operation was successful, her recovery after the operation was smooth and she was discharged from the hospital in a satisfactory condition.”
Harmanpreet told that during the treatment, on the advice of Dr. Sibiya, she got registered under the Chief Minister Health Scheme, which reduced the financial burden on her family considerably. She thanked the Bhagwant Mann government for this public welfare scheme and also appreciated the doctors and hospital staff who, along with the main treatment, took full care of her other health problems like diabetes and psoriasis.
Known for her entrepreneurial journey, Harmanpreet has operated tiffin services, food carts and food vans in Patiala for years. Despite battling illness for a long time, he continued his passion for cooking and made it to the top 20 contestants of MasterChef India Season 6. Now after recovering, she is preparing to make her dreams come true again.
Expressing gratitude for the cashless treatment and timely health assistance she received, Harmanpreet said the experience has reinvigorated her faith in public services and increased her trust in the government. “Beneficiaries like me are a living example of how affordable and accessible healthcare can make a difference in the lives of common people, especially those suffering from chronic health conditions,” she said.
