He has demanded that the culprits should be given strict punishment, so that such shameful incident does not happen again. BSP chief Mayawati wrote on social media platform X on Saturday that senior police officer of IG rank in Haryana state, Y. The incident of suicide by Puran Kumar, whose wife is also a senior IAS officer of Haryana, due to casteist exploitation and harassment has shocked the entire country. Especially the people of Dalit and Bahujan community are very agitated. He said that this very sad and very serious incident is especially shameful for a civilized government and it proves that despite millions of claims, how much the sting of casteism prevails, especially in the administration, and the governments are failing to stop it. Well, all this is more a matter of the intention and policy of the government. There should be a timely, independent and impartial investigation into this unfortunate incident and the culprits should be given strict punishment, so that such painful incidents that embarrass the civilized society do not happen again.
Mayawati said that it would be appropriate if the Haryana government takes this incident with full sensitivity and seriousness and does not try to whitewash it. There should not be any compromise in the name of investigation, as allegations have started being made. It would be better if the Honorable Supreme Court and the Central Government also take proper cognizance of this incident.
The BSP chief said that a lesson should be learned from such incidents, especially those people who talk about creamy layer by linking SC, ST and OBC reservation with economic status, because even after getting money and position, casteism does not leave them and casteist exploitation, atrocities and oppression continues at every level, the latest example of which is the current incident in Haryana.
