Ahmedabad, July 3 (). Taking a major step towards empowering railway operations with modern technology, Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway has launched a state-of-the-art Integrated Control Centre. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ved Prakash inaugurated this new control center on Friday. This center is now fully functional and will serve as the central mechanism for rail operations in the North Gujarat region.
Developed over an area of approximately 24,500 square feet, this modern complex has integrated the control activities of various departments related to railway operations under one roof. According to railway officials, this will significantly improve operational efficiency, punctuality and passenger amenities.
On the inaugural occasion, DRM Ved Prakash said that Ahmedabad Division is continuously accelerating the digital transformation of Indian Railways by adopting modern technologies. He said that this Integrated Control Center is an important achievement towards making railway operations more secure, transparent and technology based.
He said that real-time monitoring of the operation of trains will be done through this centre. Besides, crowd management, cleanliness arrangements, security related activities and any untoward incident at stations and railway premises will be monitored 24 hours. Better coordination among various departments will help in taking quick decisions and taking effective action in case of emergency.
State-of-the-art digital technologies have been used in the new control centre. High-resolution Video Display Unit (VDU) walls have been installed for real-time monitoring of approximately 1,350 route kilometers of rail network, providing real-time monitoring of every operational activity.
Various units like freight and coaching control, signal and telecommunication, engineering, traction and crew management are integrated in this complex. Apart from this, Railway Protection Force (RPF) Control Room, Disaster Management Cell and activities related to carriages and wagons will also be conducted from here.
Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, this center has also been linked to Rail Madad Grievance Redressal System and National Train Inquiry System (NTES), so that updated and accurate information about trains will be easily available to the passengers.
According to the Railways, the operation of more than 130 passenger trains and 160 freight trains operating daily will be coordinated through this integrated control centre. This will improve the punctuality of trains and operational decisions can be implemented faster.
Apart from this, better coordination will also be established in loco interchange, water supply, parcel management, crew deployment and other operational processes. Real-time data based monitoring system will make railway services more reliable and transparent.
This 24-hour complex has been developed as a modern workplace. It also provides facilities like state-of-the-art workspace, rest room, mini board room and dedicated parking for the employees.
