Congress expressed strong opposition to the change in funding pattern and reduction in the rights of Gram Sabha, huge anger among workers.
Behror. A huge labor dialogue program was organized under the “MNREGA Bachao Sangram” campaign on Saturday in Gram Panchayat Nangliya of Behror assembly constituency. Hundreds of MNREGA worker brothers and sisters of the area participated in this program organized under the leadership of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary and Congress candidate Sanjay Yadav and shared their problems. During the dialogue, Sanjay Yadav made a sharp attack on the changes made in the funding pattern of the MNREGA scheme by the BJP government. He stated that:
Previous situation: Earlier in the scheme, 90% of the amount was borne by the Central Government and 10% by the State Government.
Current Status: Now it has been changed to 60% Central and 40% State Government. Yadav said that this change will increase the financial burden on the state governments, which will directly impact the employment of workers and timely payment of wages.
Crisis on autonomy of Gram Sabha
The changes made in the functioning of MNREGA were also discussed in the programme. Speakers said that earlier the Gram Sabha used to decide the work as per the need of the village, which led to local development. Now the work has been centralized, due to which the work will be finalized from the center and the villagers will have to go outside the village to work. Due to this, the constitutional rights of Gram Panchayat and Gram Sabha are being lost.
Workers’ demands and anger
The workers present during the dialogue expressed deep anger towards the policies of the BJP government. They raised the following major demands:
Full guarantee of employment should be given.
Work should be provided within the village limits only.
Wages should be paid on time.
MNREGA should be implemented as per its original spirit (the wish of the Gram Sabha).
Sanjay Yadav’s address: “The Congress Party has always been fighting for the rights of the poor and the deprived. We will oppose brick by brick any attempt to weaken MNREGA and snatch away the rights of the Gram Sabha. This fight will continue till the decisive turn.”
