Srinagar. The politics of Jammu and Kashmir has once again become heated. Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference has started preparations for a big demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding restoration of ‘special category status’. The protest strategy was finalized in an important party meeting held at Gupkar residence in Srinagar. It was decided in the meeting that along with the constituent parties of India Alliance, all those political parties which are different from NDA will also be invited in this movement. It was also decided that formal invitation letters would be sent to all the parties and Farooq Abdullah himself would write letters to many leaders urging them to join the demonstration.
The party says that this movement is being done to demand the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and restoration of constitutional rights. The protest is planned to be held at Jantar Mantar on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
The stance of the National Conference has already been strict on this issue. Farooq Abdullah had recently said that the party will not “beg” anyone to join the movement, but those who want to support should come forward themselves.
Party leaders have made it clear that this struggle will continue in a democratic manner and the constitutional demands of Jammu and Kashmir will be raised strongly.
