New Delhi, June 10 (). The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Wednesday refuted reports claiming that Nepal has banned or banned the import of mangoes from India. The ministry described these reports as factually incorrect and misleading.
In an official statement, the ministry said the Government of Nepal, through its Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre, has clarified that no ban has been imposed on the import of Indian mangoes.
Nepal confirmed on 10 June that imports of Indian mangoes would continue subject to compliance with prescribed phytosanitary requirements.
According to the ministry, import permits and release orders are being issued by Nepalese authorities upon fulfillment of necessary conditions and presentation of valid phytosanitary certificate issued by the Indian government.
The clarification comes amid reports that Nepal has stopped the import of Indian mangoes, raising concerns among exporters and traders.
The ministry clarified that exports to Nepal are continuing without any interruption.
According to data released by the ministry, since January 2026, India has exported 149 consignments of mangoes to Nepal, with a total weight of 2,005 metric tonnes. In June alone, 18 consignments of 266 metric tons have been exported.
The ministry acknowledged that Nepal has recently amended some import conditions, including making Hot Water Treatment (HWT) mandatory for mangoes. However, the ministry said India continues to facilitate exports as per the updated requirements.
Also, India has expressed its concern over the implementation of new phytosanitary measures without prior consultation.
The Ministry has advised stakeholders, traders and general public to rely only on official information regarding import and export regulations and to ignore unconfirmed reports regarding any alleged restrictions on export of Indian mangoes to Nepal.
