Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in West Bengal, a new claim by expelled TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee has increased Mamata Banerjee’s concerns. On Friday (June 5, 2026), Ritabrata Banerjee expressed confidence that the support of the TMC faction led by her in the party is continuously increasing. He claimed that he has the support of a large section of the party’s MLAs in the West Bengal Assembly.
**Ritabrata Banerjee’s new claims**
Ritabrata Banerjee said that the number of supporting MLAs will increase further. However, he clarified that he has not had any contact with any TMC MP. “As far as the number of MLAs is concerned, it will keep increasing. I have not spoken to any MP in the last one week,” he said. He also appealed to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to take action against BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal, who had protested outside the house of rebel TMC leader Sandipan Saha.
Ritabrata Banerjee said, “BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal, who lost the election from Antali assembly constituency, protested outside the house of Sandipan Saha. This is shameful. We have lodged a complaint about this incident at the New Market police station. We appeal to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari not to support such actions and take appropriate action against them.”
**Ritabrata Banerjee targeted BJP leader**
Taking a dig at BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal, she said, “If there was anger among the public, was she also a part of that public? What was she doing there? Sandipan Saha’s house is not in Antali, but in Chowringhee constituency. [BJP] All this was organized by gathering people from outside.”
The crushing defeat in the assembly elections and the declining support of Trinamool have raised questions on Mamata’s political career. Just a month ago, Mamata was the undisputed face of the Trinamool Congress and wielded considerable legislative power, but the crushing defeat at the hands of the BJP has completely changed the political landscape for the Trinamool in Bengal.
