New low pressure area possible in Bay of Bengal, weather will be normal in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, November 2 (). The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chennai, said a new low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday, but there is no possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu.

The system, which is currently developing over southern parts of Myanmar and the adjoining Andaman Sea, is expected to intensify further during the next 24 hours.

“The existing cyclonic circulation over southern Myanmar and adjoining Andaman Sea is likely to strengthen into a low pressure area over the same region,” the RMC said in its new weather bulletin.

However, it clarified that there is no forecast of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu for the next seven days.

Meteorologists said the speed and intensity of this system will determine whether it will develop into a depression over the Bay of Bengal or further strengthen into a cyclone in the coming days.

At present, if conditions remain favourable, it is expected to move north-westwards and cause scattered rainfall over coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu later this week.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the low pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea, which was in existence since October 31, has now weakened.

The system, which moved east-northeast, became a well-marked low pressure area on Saturday morning and has remained over the same area.

According to the IMD, this weakening system is likely to move north-eastwards towards north-eastern Arabian Sea and south Gujarat coast in the next 24 hours and possibly develop into a small low pressure area again before dissipating.

Despite weather systems developing on both sides of the Indian peninsula, officials said Tamil Nadu will remain generally dry throughout the week with only light or moderate rain at isolated places.

Partly cloudy sky is expected in Chennai and surrounding districts. The maximum temperature will be around 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius.

Fishermen have been advised to remain cautious in south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea, where wind speed may reach 35-45 kmph, which may even reach 55 kmph at times due to the developing cyclonic storm. Meteorologists said that further information will be released after the new system over the Bay of Bengal becomes stronger.
