New Delhi. Newly appointed US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore is coming on a week-long visit to India. This journey will continue till 14 October. The US Embassy and Consulate gave this information on Friday. Let us tell you, along with US Ambassador to India Gore, Deputy Secretary of Management and Resources Michael J Rigas is also coming here. The US Embassy said that both will be on a visit to India from October 9 to October 14 (US local time). This is the first visit of the US Ambassador to India after his appointment as the next Ambassador to India. Gore is the youngest US ambassador to India. During the visit, Ambassador Gore and Deputy Secretary Rigas will meet with their counterparts from the Government of India to discuss a variety of bilateral issues.
“The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a secure, strong, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the US Embassy said in a statement.
This visit of Gore is important because he is considered a close ally of US President Donald Trump. Along with this, amidst the uproar over Trump tariffs, he has given a ‘favorable’ statement in favor of India.
Last month, while interacting with the media, he had said that the Trump government has invited the Indian delegation to Washington and the two sides are close to an agreement. He has earlier also advocated strengthening defense ties with India.
Recently Sergio Gore was elected as the US Ambassador to India. Sergio Gore was selected by Senate vote for US Ambassador. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had nominated Sergio Gore.
107 candidates including US Ambassador Gore participated in this voting race. However, among these, Gore was selected through Senate voting.
Gore is said to be one of the US President’s closest aides. He also served as Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. He was entrusted with the responsibility of investigating more than 4,000 posts during the second term of the Trump government.
Let us tell you, in August this year, President Trump announced his nomination on Truth Social. In this post on August 22, the US President wrote, “For the world’s most populous region, it is important that I have someone I can completely trust to carry out my agenda and help us make America great again. Sergio will be an amazing ambassador.”
President Trump also announced that Gore would also serve as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. Later in September, Gore, during his confirmation hearing in the Senate, called India a “strategic partner”.
He had said, “India’s geographic location, economic growth, and military capabilities make it a cornerstone of regional stability and a vital part of promoting prosperity and advancing our nations’ shared security interests. India is one of our nation’s most important relationships in the world. I look forward to delivering on the President’s agenda and advancing American interests by enhancing our defense cooperation, deepening fair and beneficial trade, ensuring energy security, and advancing technology.” I will work for you.”
On strengthening defense ties with India, Gore had said, “I would prioritize deepening defense and security cooperation with India. This includes expanding joint military exercises, pursuing co-development and co-production of defense systems, and completing significant defense sales.”
Meanwhile, Gore said India’s population of 1.4 billion and “rapidly growing middle class” presents immense opportunities for the US “from artificial intelligence to pharmaceuticals and critical minerals, and the potential for collaboration between the two countries is immense.”
Earlier, he recently met Foreign Minister S. in New York during the United Nations General Assembly. Had also met Jaishankar. After the meeting, the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs said the two leaders “look forward to further promoting the success of US-India relations.”
Gore is also a close ally of Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. and traveled with him to Greenland in January as part of the administration’s efforts to drum up support for a US annexation of the Danish territory.
