In Kota, Rajasthan today, Congress student organization NSUI (National Students Union of India) staged a strong protest against the BJP government. The demonstration was organized in protest against the arrest of state president Vinod Jakhar. NSUI activists created a ruckus at the main gate of Commerce College, causing a tense atmosphere in the area.
During the protest, the police took action in view of security and arrested several student leaders including NSUI District President Vishal Mewada. A case has been registered against the arrested leaders and they are currently kept in the police station. Police say this action was taken to maintain peace and law and order.
Late night Congress workers and members of NSUI reached the police station and shouted slogans. He alleged that the government is suppressing the voice of the students and violating democratic rights. During this time, the atmosphere around the police station remained tense due to slogans and demonstrations.
NSUI District President Vishal Mewada while talking to the media said, “This is a furore on democracy. This is an attempt to suppress our voice. The rights of the students and the youth are being ignored. We were making our demands peacefully, but the police arrested us.” He also said that suppressing opposition voices by the government is against democratic values.
According to NSUI, the main objective of the demonstration was to make public and youth aware of the action taken against the student organization and the state president. He said that student leaders always raise their voice in the interest of the youth and the government should pay attention to it.
This incident in Kota is considered to be a political warmth. Experts say that the activities and demonstrations of student organizations are common amidst elections and political pressure, but the action of police and administration is also considered necessary to maintain local peace and security.
Local people also reacted separately to protest and police action. Some people are in favor of the students and they say that it is not right to suppress the voice of the youth, while others say that the ruckus and slogans up to the police station affect administrative work.
The case has again given prominence to political activities in Kota and activism of student organizations. NSUI has warned that they will continue their agitation and protest and demand the government that action against their leaders should be abolished immediately.
In this way, NSUI’s protests in Kota and the arrest of students have made the political and social environment stressful in the state. Now it remains to be seen how the issue will be resolved between the government and the student organization.
