Bhubaneswar, 18 September (). The Commissionerate Police has resolved the mystery of the disappearance of a female traffic constable from Bhubaneswar, which was missing since 6 September.
Talking to media persons, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Dutt Singh revealed that 25 -year -old victim Shubhmitra Sahu, a resident of Pichukuli in Khordha district, was murdered by her husband Deepak Kumar Raut, who was a constable in the Commissionerate Police. His body was buried in a deserted place in the forest near Ghatgaon area of Keonjhar district.
The Police Commissioner said that the victim went on duty on 6 September, while her disappearance report was lodged at the capital police station on 7 September after not returning home after duty. The police later carried out a intensive search operation in search of the missing female constable.
He further said that the victim Shubhmitra married accused Deepak on 23 July 2024. During the investigation of Shubhmitra’s chat, the police came to know that she was in depression and had intended to hide about a week ago. The police also searched various religious places as they were planning to visit the pilgrimage sites like Banaras, Mathura etc.
The Commissionerate Police had also announced a cash reward for giving any reliable information about Shubhmitra Sahu.
Accused Deepak also confessed during interrogation that on September 6, he picked Shubmitra in his Honda City Car (Registration Number OD-02-R-8494) and strangled him in Unit-VI area between 2 pm and 3 pm. He later threw his body into the forest of Keonjhar district.
The Police Commissioner said during a conversation with the media that further investigation was underway to find out other possible aspects of the murder, including the suspicion that the accused was planning to claim the insurance amount after the murder of Shubhmitra.
Meanwhile, the police have excavated the body of Shubhamitra from a sack by digging in the forest of Ghatagaon in Keonjhar during the scene recreation. A case (535/25) has been registered under sections 103 (1) and 238 BNS at the Capital Police Station based on its confession and evidence.
Deepak Kumar Raut, accused in the case, has been arrested.
