Bhubaneswar, 14 September (). On Sunday, the opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress attacked the state government over the ongoing fertilizer crisis in several districts of Odisha. Both parties have accused the government of misleading the farmers and blindly blindly with the ground truth.

Speaking to the media, senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya said that the claims of adequate availability of fertilizer by the state government are false and misleading.

He appealed to the government, saying, “Ministers should go to the villages instead of making statements only in Bhubaneswar. If they feel that farmers are getting enough fertilizer, we will accept their claim. But the truth is that farmers have to stand in long queues.”

He informed that miles long queues are being seen outside primary agricultural loan committees (PACS) in many districts.

Prasanna Acharya also claimed that black marketing of manure is taking place and farmers are buying fertilizer at two to three times more than the market under compulsion.

He alleged that the crisis shows that the government has no control over the supply of fertilizers in the state, while the stock exists.

Prasanna Acharya announced that the BJD would demonstrate outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Monday and demand intervention from the governor so that the fertilizer crisis can be resolved.

Congress Legislature Party leader Ramchandra Kadam also took a dig at the state government. He said that the Congress will raise the problems of farmers in the upcoming assembly session and seek answers from the government.

Reacting to the allegations of the opposition, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that the government is constantly working in the interest of farmers under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.

He said, “The opposition wants to confuse the farmers only by making false allegations. But now the farmers and the public have understood who is doing them well. The government is ready to discuss every issue in the assembly.”
