Ranchi. Jharkhand is celebrating its 25th anniversary today on 15th November. On this occasion, a grand state function is being organized at Morhabadi Maidan in the capital Ranchi. Apart from this, many programs are taking place across the state. On this date in the year 2000, it emerged as the 28th state on the country’s map. This new state was formed by dividing 18 districts of Bihar. This date is also special because 15th November is the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda. The Ulgulan, led by this immortal hero of the freedom struggle and tribal identity, shook the foundation of the British rule. In his memory, the date of establishment of the state was fixed as 15 November. The historic bill to create a separate Jharkhand state by dividing Bihar was passed by the Parliament on August 2, 2000. This initiative was taken by the government led by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Centre. Earlier, after a movement that lasted for almost five decades, the Bihar Assembly had passed the proposal for the formation of a separate Jharkhand state on July 22, 1997.
