Operation Sherwali continues on eighth day in Rajouri, search for terrorists intensifies in dense forests

Rajouri. The search operation (Operation Sherwali) of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir continues on the 8th day. The security forces started this operation after receiving intelligence about the hiding of suspected terrorists in the area. There is a possibility of 2 to 3 terrorists hiding in the dense forest area of Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal in Manjakot sector of Rajouri district. Security arrangements are very tight in the entire area. There have also been intermittent explosions and firing in the area in the past few days. The Indian Army has named this ongoing campaign against terrorists as ‘Operation Sherwali’. Joint teams of police and security forces had launched a cordon and search operation after receiving intelligence about suspicious activities last week. Officials said that reports were received about the presence of two to three people, after which a thorough search of the area was conducted. The security forces also opened fire on suspected hiding places of terrorists.
This forested area, located in the Pir Panjal range of Rajouri district, is considered one of the most challenging areas for counter-terrorism operations due to its steep hills, dense forests and limited access.
Amidst the operation, security personnel have increased surveillance in the surrounding areas. Checkpoints have been made at various places. Also, the movement of vehicles and pedestrians is being closely monitored. The search operation continued throughout the day, under which the security forces conducted systematic intensive search operations in many parts of the forest.
There is no news of any casualties from any side in this operation so far.
It is noteworthy that the security forces have recently intensified their operations to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. Two weeks ago, security forces had killed a terrorist while foiling an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control. Earlier, raids were also conducted on the hideouts of terrorist facilitators and other suspects in Jammu and Kashmir.
