New Delhi. Congress and other opposition parties on Sunday said that they will seek answers from the central government on many important issues in the monsoon session of Parliament. Among these, the issue of alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya’s Ram temple, NEET-UG paper leak and hospitalization of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk against her will will be raised prominently. Speaking to , Congress MP Kumari Selja said, “We will definitely raise many issues. These include issues related to students, theft in Ram temple and rising inflation. The government neither sees nor listens to the concerns of the people. Inflation is rising. Petrol prices have been increased but the government is not telling anything about its policy.” He further said, “Experts are unable to explain anything on the issue of ethanol and consumers are having to bear the brunt of it.”
Speaking to reporters after the all-party meeting called by the Centre, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “I believe that there are many issues facing the country today which are more important than the bills presented by the government. The opposition has been continuously demanding that these issues be discussed in Parliament and the government respond to them.”
He asked the government to show ‘sensitivity’ in the matter of theft of Ram temple offerings. On this matter, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We are also witnessing the injustice being done to students and the various protests taking place across the country, yet there is no accountability from the government,” he said.
Congress MP Manish Tewari said that he will also draw the Centre’s attention towards the defection taking place in various opposition parties.
He told , “The basic issue is that the mandate given by the people in 2024 and the present composition of the Lok Sabha are very different. Therefore, Parliament should first consider the issue of large-scale defection. This defection has not happened because of any ideological differences, policy disagreements or fundamental issues, but only because of opportunism.”
“Parliament should leave aside everything else and first discuss how to stop this defection,” he said.
Speaking to after the all-party meeting, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav said, “We have raised several issues on behalf of our party and demanded that the government bring these matters for discussion in the House. We hope that the House will allow discussion on our notice.”
He said, “An important issue is the theft of funds and donations during the construction of Ram temple. This is a case of fraud and betrayal, which has hurt the sentiments of Sanatanis. Our demand is that these matters should be brought to the House and people should be given a chance to hear and understand them.”
Yadav said that NEET-UG paper leak is also an important issue, which also includes the suicide of students and the forced hospitalization of Sonam Wangchuk. “We will raise these issues in Parliament at any cost,” he stressed.
Criticizing the BJP-led central government, CPI-M leader Hannan Mollah described it as a government of ‘corruption, scams, anti-democratic activities and looters’.
He said, “Allegations have emerged that money is being looted from the Ram temple and many other temples, and these temples are maintained by members of the RSS and the BJP. There are many issues on which the government should answer. I don’t know why they always run away from answering.”
