A major paragliding accident occurred on Saturday in Bir-Billing in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. One paraglider died tragically, while a tourist survived. Police reached the spot and registered an FIR and started investigating the cause of the accident. The family of the deceased is sad. This incident has raised serious questions on adventurous activities.
Giving information about the incident, Kangra’s ASP Veer Bahadur said that during the tandem flight from Bir-Billing takeoff point, the glider suffered a technical fault due to which it lost control and crashed on the road below. The local paraglider suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but died on the way. The tourist who was flying died.
Couldn’t reach hospital on time
According to reports, after the incident, local people and the rescue team tried to take the injured to Baijnath Civil Hospital, but the ambulance got stuck in a traffic jam, due to which the paraglider died on the way. The tourist survived, but his condition is now said to be out of danger. ASP Bahadur said that the paraglider suffered serious head injuries during the accident, due to which he could not survive.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident
Police have registered a case and are investigating whether it happened due to technical fault, human error or weather. Due to this incident, there is mourning in the area at present. There is mourning in the family of the deceased. This is not the first such accident in Kangla district this year, so far in 2025 there have been three paragliding crashes in which three people have died.
Three people died in a year
The first accident in 2025 occurred at the Indrunag site in January, in which a woman died. Another woman had died during the Paragliding World Cup tournament in Billings. This is the third accident in which a paraglider has lost his life.
