NDA has got a huge victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Along with this, the new government led by Nitish Kumar will take oath on November 20. This swearing-in ceremony will take place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. This will be the 10th term of Nitish Kumar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will also be present in this ceremony. It is noteworthy that Nitish Kumar has already taken oath on the same ground. Furthermore, Gandhi Maidan has an interesting history, where rallies of Mahatma Gandhi and Jinnah have been held.
Swearing in ceremony on 20th November
A new government is to be formed in Bihar. The date of swearing in ceremony has been announced as 20th November. Nitish Kumar will take oath as Chief Minister on the same day at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Many senior BJP leaders including PM Modi and Amit Shah will be present. Nitish Kumar has taken oath here before also.
Bankipur Maidan was earlier Gandhi Maidan
Before 1948, this ground was known as Bankipur Ground or Patna Lawn. Polo was played here during the British rule. The proposal to name it Gandhi Maidan was made by a teacher from Muzaffarpur district. It was he who suggested naming it Gandhi Maidan. In 2013, Nitish Kumar installed the tallest statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
History related to Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi had started the Champaran Satyagraha from this very ground. He addressed the public from here. Apart from this, the name of Mohammad Ali Jinnah is also associated with this ground. He gave a speech against the Congress Party here in 1938. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose also held a rally for the Forward Bloc Party in 1939.
Apart from this, the history of Gandhi Maidan is also associated with the first President of independent India. Rajendra Prasad, J.B. Many leaders including Kripalani, Ram Manohar Lohia, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Jawaharlal Nehru have addressed the public from this ground.
