Sanand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated CG Semi’s Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking an important milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. During this, Prime Minister Modi said that today is a historic day for India’s semiconductor sector. The CG Semi OSAT facility located at Sanand will strengthen the chip manufacturing ecosystem, promote technological self-reliance and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain. Prime Minister Modi said, “5 years ago, India had resolved to make the country a semiconductor hub. We moved forward with the mantra of Design India, Make in India and today commercial production of chip packaging is starting in the third semiconductor plant of the country.”
The Prime Minister further said, “Friends! I had the opportunity to lay the foundation stone of this plant in 2024. The testing chip work started in the month of August 2025 and today this plant has been inaugurated. This journey from foundation stone to production is definitely the result of the hard work of many colleagues.”
PM Modi further said that this plant of CG Semi is also a symbol of the joint efforts of our industry partners from India, Japan and Thailand. This is not just a business venture, it is a model of technology, trust and partnership that is going to give new impetus to India’s semiconductor journey.
Earlier, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that efforts were going on to develop the chip industry in the country for the last 60 years, but with Modi’s vision this dream is now coming true.
Ashwini Vaishnav said, “The country’s third semiconductor plant is being commissioned. The Prime Minister commissioned the first plant on February 28. After this, the second plant was commissioned on March 31 and today on July 4, the third plant is being commissioned.”
He further said, “Today, the speed with which the Prime Minister and the Cabinet approved 12 plants, out of which commercial production has started in three, has created a new confidence in India’s semiconductor capability across the world.”
This plant will increase the country’s chip manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on imported chips for electronic components. The government believes that this will create a stronger role for India in the global semiconductor supply chain.
