New Delhi, December 31 (). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted the crew members of INSV Kaundinya for the New Year. The country is preparing to welcome 2026, and the Prime Minister also praised their hard work and dedication.
In a post on social media platform All of them are in the sea and on their journey.
PM Modi said, “It is a great pleasure to receive this picture from the team of INSV Kaundinya. It is heartening to see their enthusiasm. As we are about to welcome 2026, my special wishes to the INSV Kaundinya team, which is in the middle of the ocean. May the remaining part of their journey be filled with happiness and success.”
PM Modi’s post also contained a photograph in which crew members are standing on the deck of the ship with the open sea and the ship’s distinctive sails visible in the background.
Indian Navy’s special wooden and jute ship INSV Kaundinya left for Oman from Gujarat on Monday. INSV Koundinya set out on its maiden voyage from Porbandar to Muscat, Oman.
The specialty of this naval ship is that it is a ship built with an ancient sailing method. The ship will symbolically re-evaluate the historic sea routes that have connected India with the wider Indian Ocean world for millennia. Through this journey, the ship will re-enact India’s ancient shipbuilding and maritime traditions.
It has been created entirely using traditional stitch-plank technique, taking inspiration from the depictions of ancient Indian ships.
The Defense Ministry says that INSV Kaundinya is a rare amalgamation of history, craftsmanship and modern naval expertise. Unlike contemporary ships, its wooden planks are stitched together with coconut fiber rope and sealed with natural resin. It reflects the tradition of shipbuilding prevalent in ancient times along the coasts of India and the Indian Ocean.
