Tarn Taran. In a major action against organized crime, Punjab Police arrested foreign gangster Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike and 5 active members of Gurdev Jaisal group. Three illegal weapons have also been recovered from their possession.
Tarn Taran police had received information from an informer that some people were going to carry out criminal activities in Bhikhiwind area. As soon as the information was received, Tarn Taran police took immediate action and arrested the five accused. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused used to fire from illegal weapons to threaten people who did not pay extortion money. Some time ago, they had also carried out firing incidents in villages Munda and Fatehabad due to non-payment of extortion money.
Investigation also revealed that foreign gangsters Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike and Gurdev Jaisal along with their close associates Gurvinder Singh alias Palli, Jashanpreet Singh alias Tori, Amritpal Singh alias Amrit, Jasvinder Singh alias Asu and a minor had formed a gang and were working on the orders of gangster Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike.
The police have produced all the accused in the court and taken them on remand. Tarn Taran police believe that there is a possibility of more revelations related to the gang during the remand.
Police officials said that the accused are being interrogated. Many cases are likely to be exposed. Also, a team has been formed to arrest the remaining members of their gang and a search has been started for them. The search for the arrested accused was going on for a long time. They are also being asked from where and how the illegal weapons reach them.
In this sequence, Amritsar Rural Police of Punjab in collaboration with the central agencies has achieved a major success. Acting on an intelligence, the police have arrested two terrorist operatives. A dangerous Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) has been recovered from them.
Initial investigation revealed that the arrested accused Mehakdeep Singh Mehak and Aditya were in direct contact with the Pakistan-based ISI agent who had sent the weapon to India.
