New Delhi. The opposition’s protest against the alleged NEET paper leak intensified in the capital Delhi on Thursday. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and India Bloc MPs held a symbolic demonstration at Gandhi Smriti located on Tees January Marg. The protest was held in support of the students who committed suicide following the paper leak controversy and those who were injured in the recent protests. Dressed in his signature white T-shirt, Rahul Gandhi held the national flag and a copy of the Constitution, while his fellow MPs lit up the evening with mobile flashlights, creating a candlelight march-like atmosphere. The purpose of the meeting was to highlight what the opposition said was the government’s failure to safeguard the future of young candidates.
Earlier in the day, barricades were erected at Gandhi’s residence after opposition MPs gathered for a meeting. After the talks, Rahul Gandhi announced his plan to march to Gandhi Smriti, located less than a kilometer away. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other MPs were taken in three buses to the place where they attended the event.
Rahul Gandhi announced that at present the MPs and leaders of the alliance are peacefully going towards Gandhi Smriti on 30th January Marg. We are going to remember the students we have lost, the children who were forced to take their lives after the NEET paper leak. We stand with the students who lie injured today, who have been beaten for peacefully demanding justice and accountability.
He later told reporters that his initial plan to maintain surveillance at India Gate was rejected by police officials. Their buses were stopped for some time before being allowed to proceed towards Gandhi Smriti. Sharing a video from inside a bus, Gandhi posted, “No one can stop us from standing with the students of India.”
The opposition has pledged to continue demanding accountability and has called on the government to take responsibility for the alleged paper leak and the unrest that followed. The protests represent a major escalation in the ongoing political battle over test integrity, student safety and public trust in national institutions.
