In today’s time, PAN card has become a very important document for every major financial transaction related to banking, tax filing, investment and business. From April 1, it will no longer be possible to get PAN card on the basis of Aadhaar card alone. Under the new rules, applicants will now have to submit some more documents while applying for PAN card. Therefore, if you are thinking of applying for a new PAN card after April 1, it is very important for you to know about these changes in advance.

New PAN cards cannot be issued only on the basis of Aadhaar card.
From April 1, there are changes in the rules related to PAN card applications. If you apply by March 31, your PAN card can still be issued only on the basis of your Aadhaar card. However, for applications submitted on or after April 1, you will need to submit a few more documents along with your Aadhaar card. These documents include birth certificate, voter ID card, passport, driving license, matriculation certificate, or an affidavit issued by a magistrate. Additionally, the name registered on your PAN card must now *exactly* match the name registered on your Aadhaar card.

Old PAN card application forms will be discontinued
The application forms currently being used for obtaining PAN card will be closed from April 1. The government is about to release new application forms for PAN card. After April 1, 2026, it will not be possible to apply for a new PAN card or make any updates/corrections in an existing PAN card using the old form. Therefore, whether you wish to submit a new application or request a change/update to an existing card, you will be required to use the new form format.

Name related changes
From April 1, there will also be changes in the rules related to the name recorded on the PAN card. It is now mandatory that the name appearing on the new PAN card is exactly the same as the name registered on the Aadhaar card linked to it. Therefore, if there is any discrepancy or mistake in the name written on your Aadhaar card, you are advised to get it updated immediately.
