Seoul, June 24 (). Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun in Seoul on Wednesday and reviewed cooperation between the two countries in shipbuilding, trade, investment, defence, technology, clean energy, culture and P2P (people-to-people) sectors.
The two also discussed opportunities for collaboration in startups, fintech and multilateral fora.

Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to India in April last year had provided momentum towards taking India-South Korea relations to a new level. He said both sides reviewed and discussed ways to take forward the rapid implementation of decisions taken at the last summit in areas such as trade, investment and finance.

He also said that during the lunch, he and Jaishankar discussed the global situation in detail and agreed to jointly respond to the economic impacts arising from the situation in the Middle East. He said that the two countries will maintain close contact.
In his opening address, Jaishankar said, “It is a pleasure for me to return to Seoul and meet my counterpart, and this meeting is timely given the recent presidential level visit and the current circumstances in the world that have further heightened the importance of India-South Korea relations.”
He also reminded that he has met Cho Hyun in New York, Kuala Lumpur, Washington, during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and during the visit of the South Korean President to India.
Jaishankar said it is the responsibility of foreign ministers today to take this relationship forward and coordinate cooperation between different government and economic sectors to develop a more modern and future-oriented partnership.
He said that today’s world demands cooperation among like-minded countries, with shared values and mutual trust, and recent high-level meetings have provided guidance in this direction.
